Honeymoon Part 1

Honeymoon Part 1

I kept a journal on honeymoon as we both decided to avoid PCs for 3 weeks. These are my ramblings/observations. Don’t worry, not all entries are going to be as long as this one – Las Vegas was particularly full on – I’ll spread them out a bit too to keep you hooked dear reader 🙂
Friday 15th September
Woohoo – off work for 3 weeks and a day to head off on Honeymoon. Its been 4 months since we got married but we wanted to enjoy the summer in Edinburgh and work commitments from Lorraine meant it was easier to wait. Also gave us chance to save and have something else to look forward to later in the year.

We start early and finish packing and hoovering (!). Bye to the pussycats then mum takes us to the airport plenty early.

Heading off on Delta we buy some champers (well sparkling wine) on the flight. It is our honeymoon after all only another 8 hours to go! They’re showing Poseidon – wasn’t sure they would show disaster movies on the plane, still it was okay and I’ll watch anything to pass the time 🙂

Next they showed Nacho Libre which was total cr@p and then X-Men – The Last Stand which we’ve seen before but its a good action movie to keep us amused.

Picking up our baggage at Atlanta (Delta’s hub) I’m always amazed by people standing right at the conveyor when their bags are nowhere in sight. Am I just too sensible, waiting at the back until I see the bags and then charging through the crowds, shins and elbows getting bashed as drag the bags off and away. Thats my rant for the day over…

Its a huge airport – 5 terminals and a train linking them all – very neat and tidy though.

As we sit and wait for a couple of hours for our flight to Las Vegas Lorraine starts spotting all the fake boobs going past! I thought that was supposed to be a mans prerogative!

Flight to Las Vegas take another 4.5 hours, glancing at the itinery we thought it was 1.5 hours and didn’t realise there was another 3 hours time difference. D’oh! X-men 3 is on again. Shame, I resist watching it and read my book instead. Toast.

Flight was delayed by 45 mins so its getting late when we arrive in LV – a man with our name on a placard is waiting for us though, I thought it was just for transport to the hotel, but it is actually for our limo that Lorraine has organised. Very nice stretch job with loadsa toys. We see some of the lights on “the strip” as we arrive.

Saturday 16th September

Check in and order some tea and toast before heading to bed.

Wow the Venetian is quite post and huuuuuge – 7 pools!

After brekkie we head out for a walk up “the strip” and the pavements are busy with folk – mostly adults – some beggars – some dudes handing out cards for hookers…

The streets are really busy – lots of noisy Harleys zooming about. I find out later its some sort of big meet-up. Wow loads of weekend bikers who head back to being a dentist/lawyer/doctor on Monday.

We have a beer in Caesar’s Palace after having a look at some of the other hotels. Mirage is just across the road from ours, Treasure Island is out and right, all of the rest are to our left. There’s a football (american) game on in the bar – Michingan vs Notre Dame. The punters are reasonably split and quite vocal when their own team scores.

Lorraine meets Elvis and we take his piccie (for a couple of bucks). He’s the only one we saw in the whole time we were there.

We’ve a great evening planned but the Cuvee arrives a wee bit late while we are getting ready so we only have time for a glass before we are due at dinner in Canaletto one of at least half a dozen top restaurants here in the hotel.

After fabulous dinner in a fake-indoors-replica of St Marks square in Venice we head to Phantom in the purpose built theatre, again in our hotel, told you it was huuuuuge. Actually we headed out to catch the fountain musical show in front of the Bellagio before heading back in. Phantom LV style has a few more fx but is still great – genuine ooh and ahhs from the audience as the chandelier came down. I kept nodding off though as my body clock was a wee bit out!
